Located in central Atlanta, Arts Center Station is a vital bus and light rail hub servicing Midtown’s robust residential and commercial population while anchoring the city’s cultural corridor immediately to the East. Currently a largely inaccessible parcel, the proposal creates two acres of publicly accessible open space to create a ‘cultural hub and arts district’, housing a wide range of program for a diverse base of users (residential, office, hotel, transit related, retail based, arts focused) and offsite neighbors and tourists.

A PUBLIC REALM THAT SUTURES
To be successful, the site must establish itself as the central fabric connecting its distinct neighbors into a unified community making a place that cultivates quality of life for all. To accomplish this, the approach focuses on: building strong, activated corridors through the site rather than around it; integrate the transit hub with the cultural institutions to the west (a metaphorical front porch), and creating a varied array of public spaces that compliments the residents, visitors and users of Midtown

NAVIGATING SLOPE
One of the central challenges RELM had to address was thoughtfully overcoming 40 feet of grade change. We needed an elegant solution that solved two key aims: better resolving bus circulation along West Peachtree Street NW and connecting the campus to Atlanta’s cultural corridor along Arts Center Way to knit the development to the city’s cultural district.
