RELM master planned and completed the first site programming of the former KorPine Milling site in Bend, OR. The 33-acre campus looks to establish a vibrant, pedestrian focused community that links to surrounding neighborhoods and the river. The first phase of the development is a boutique hotel that celebrates the materials of the region, and the site’s timber legacy.
In addition to forming a distinct address and gateway for the district, it will include an expansive plaza and event space. The design is inspired by Oregon’s natural landscape vernacular, with stands of conifers framing a clearing in the woods defined by stone paving for guests to gather and occupy. Timber benches, open fire pits encircled by native boulders, and an expansive shade structure anchor Timber Yard’s civic heart.
CELEBRATING OREGON’S FORESTS AND THE STRENGTH OF A ‘CLEARING’
The hotel seeks to leverage its prominent location, and establish itself as a civic destination – as much through its ground floor program, as well as an expansive new public spaces. The plaza, embodying the unique experience of a clearing woods will establish itself as the heart of the district, fostering all manner of events, gatherings and celebration. while also forming a celebrated gateway to the broader district. Guest amenities draw inspiration from mountain hot springs, redefining the hotel pool deck experience.
CONNECTING WITH BEND’S INHERENT MATERIALITY
