CALIFORNIA NATURAL RESOURCES HEADQUARTERS BUILDING
RELM’s guiding principles in designing the landscape for the new Natural Resources Headquarters building in Sacramento are born of anchoring adjacent uses, forms, demographics, and periods of time. The project is a pivotal urban infill site in the historic core of downtown Sacramento.
A mixture of Eucalyptus, Pine, and Elm trees create a dynamic tree canopy celebrating the city’s urban forest stature. Changing in expression moving north to south, from urban to naturalistic, the site is expected to enjoy 40% canopy coverage in five years. This exceeds the city’s goal of 35%.
The one acre ground level campus is divided into five zones. All edges are designed to draw users into the site, connecting to F&B, retail, high quality open space, and transit across the street.
