Carson, CA
Client: Plentitude Holdings LLC and County of Los Angeles
The site of a former landfill and public golf course, the Creek at Dominguez Hills is an 87-acre park that seeks to restore ecological function and community life in the City of Carson. Divided into two primary zones, Sports Park and Creek Park, the design provides active and natural recreational activities for a park-poor community, funded through a unique public-private partnership.
PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
The County entered a public private partnership to re-purpose public land (currently used as a golf course) into a dynamic open space. The agreement brings needed revenue and amenity to the area while paying for the reconstruction and maintenance of park land. An enhanced golf experience coupled with pay to play recreational venues, and retail/food and beverage will drive patronage and create jobs. One of the most compelling attributes of the project is its 35+ acres of publicly accessible open space and 3 miles of walking/cycling trails.
RESTORING A HISTORIC CHANNEL
Revenue from the park’s paid amenities will help restore a historic channel that runs parallel to the Los Angeles River and complete the north-south bike network running through the Dominguez Hills.
