Next Project
SANTA MONICA
AND
VERMONT
Los Angeles, CA
Client: Little Tokyo Service Center
At Metro’s redline station in East Hollywood, 187 apartments will soon provide a mixture of low-income and permanent supportive housing units, as well as a neighborhood food hall. RELM’s design includes a community-serving transit plaza and terraced residential courtyards to support neighborhood public life and resiliency. Plantings are nearly all California native, irrigated with reclaimed stormwater captured in a subterranean cistern.
PUBLIC LIFE ANCHORED BY TRANSIT
Engagement with East Hollywood’s urban terrain is seminal to the experience of living at Santa Monica and Vermont. Urban plazas and residential courtyards introduce urban nature into the site, which include play areas, picnic areas, and community rooms. Bus, bike, and rail lines anchor the housing complex.
Non-profit housing developer, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), is making a suite of comprehensive transit improvements including a Bicycle/Mobility Hub, a mobility hub kiosk, several First Last Mile updates, and improved rapid and local bus stops and shelters.
